Along the last years I have bought several books about the pekingese, some are just pet guides about the breed, other are wonderful containers of information. I have tried to understand differents points of view about the breed, and I have discovered myself researching about champions, bloodlines and breeders. Still there are lot of books I would like to read and probably many of the modern pekingese history is still hiden for me cause it needs such a good research to understand deeply the breed and the history that have involved the evolution since the time that arrived from Orient. But at least I am in the way and it helps me to see the pekingese with a whole point of view.

Durante los últimos años he ido comprando todos los libros sobre pekinés que he encontrado, algunos son solamente guías sobre la raza, otros son maravillosos contenedores de información sobre la raza que te permiten investigar sobre líneas de sangre y campeones influyentes. Todavía hay muchos libros que me quedan por conseguir y que me gustaría leer para poder conocer un poquito mejor la historia de la raza desde sus comienzos cuando llegó de Oriente. Pero al menos estoy en mi camino de conseguirlo y sin duda esto ayuda a conocer mejor la raza y diferentes puntos de vista de la misma.

My favourite readings til today have been "The New Pekingese" by Nigel Aubrey Jones , from the famous St. Aubrey kennel (UK and Canada). The author is focused in many interesting points for a breeder, and the comments about the standard are so valuable, it is a must-read book.

Mi libro favorito hasta el día de hoy es "The New Pekingese" escrito por Nigel Aubrey Jones, del famoso criadero de pekinés, muy influyente en la historia de la raza, St. Aubrey (EEUU y Canadá). El autor se centra en muchos puntos interesantes del pekinés para el criador, y además los comentarios a los diferentes estándares de la raza es de gran valor, es una lectura obligatoria.

Other book that I have enjoyed is "The book of pekingese" by Anna Katherine Nicholas. It is a big book plenty of photos, it is almost an encyclopedia about the breed in USA in the seventies, yes it is old fashioned because was published in 1975 but it is plenty of the classic heads and body types of pekingese, in a time when the breed was rasing, and that we still need have in mind.

Otro libro que he disfrutado bastante es "The book of the pekingese" de Anna Katherina Nicholas. Es un libro tipo enciclopedia publicado en EEUU en 1975, lleno de fotos, y sí, algo anticuado, pero está lleno de pekineses con tipos y cabezas muy clásicas, en una época en que la raza estaba en su esplendor, y que hay que tener en cuenta como referencia.

For knowing the origins of the modern pekingese, there is another very interesting reading, and a big classic pekingese book, it is the Mrs. Ashton Cross´s book  from the famous and very influent breeder of Alderbourne kennel (UK), "The Pekingese book" , it is available a new edition of the vintage one so it is possible find it out in internet for sale.

Para conocer los orígenes del pekinés moderno, hay otro libro muy interesante, un gran clásico, de la famosa e influyente criadora Mrs. Ashton Cross, del afijo Alderbourne (Inglaterra) titulado "The Pekingese Book", hay disponible una nueva edición facsímil por lo que es posible encontrarlo a la venta.

Going to something more modern, there is the book "The Complete Pekingese" by Liz Stanndard, from Shiarita kennel (UK). Another must-read book.

Otro libro más moderno, es el de "The complete Pekingese" the la criadora inglesa Liz Stanndar, del afijo Shiarita. Otro libro de lectura obligatoria para los amantes de la raza.

And finally, I have enjoyed also "The popular pekingese" by Jhon A. Vlasto, and "Pekingese" by Vandella Williams and Adele Summers. I reccomend both lectures too. The first one because of the good explanation of the standard with pictures, and the section about breeding pekingeses, when a c-section was not the first option, it is plenty of good first hand info. And the second one because I think is quite a good complete modern pekingese book, well written and a good "whole" book about the breed.

Y para ir terminando, también he disfrutado bastante del libro "The popular pekingese" de Jhon A. Vlasto, y "Pekingese" de Vandella Williams y Adele Summers. Recomiendo ambas lecturas. El primero porque explica muy bien el estándar con ilustraciones, y la sección de cría del pekinés, cuando una cesárea no es la primera opción y se deja el desarrollo de un parto natural, está lleno de información de primera mano. Y el segundo porque creo que es un libro bastante completo, bien escrito, un buen libro sobre la raza al "completo".

But I should say that I will have always in my heart my first book about pekingese, from a time that I didn´t even dream about have one and I was so fascinated about the breed. Then later, thanks to a friend, I got that my first pekingese book, "El pequinés" by the reputable italian breeder Paolo Prandi, from "Del Canto Alto" kennel. I still think it is quite a good book, some of the standard ilustrations about the breed could be a little bit more accurate to the proportions of the modern breed, but are still very nice, so I treasure mine. 

Pero he de decir que sin duda el libro que llevo en mi corazón, que fue mi primer libro del pekinés, incluso cuando no me planteaba tener ninguno (allá por los 12 años) y que me hizo quedar fascinada con la raza, es el libro de "El pequinés" (esta vez sí, uno en español) del reputado criador italiano Paolo Prandi, del afijo "Del Canto Alto". Todavía pienso que es un buen libro, algunas de las ilustraciones sobre el estándar podrían ser un poco más exactas a las proporciones de la raza moderna, pero de todas formas yo lo guardo como un tesoro.

Here you have my own list of books, that you could easily find in Internet, you have the links to Amazon anyway if it is of some help. Most of them are only available of second hand, some are cheaper and other quite expensive to be 2nd hand, but well, if you want a completed collection of books about the pekingese for sure you will enjoy taking a look.
